Merry Christmas!
Today we celebrate our Lord’s birthday. It’s all about love, you know. His love. He was always with the Heavenly Father from before all time. In the fullness of time, He and the Father decided to show us how incredible their love is for us. And so God became incarnate, Emmanuel, God-With-Us. There were many miracles surrounding his birth:
- The Archangel Gabriel appearing to Mary telling her she would have a very special child of the Holy Spirit.
- Joseph deciding to keep her around (when he knew he hadn’t gotten her pregnant) instead of shaming her in their culture
- The census that caused them to have to travel to Bethlehem, where Mary gave birth
- The angels appearing to the shepherds and telling them where to go to find this child
- The magi from ancient Persia traveling hundreds of miles, believing in the brilliant star they could see in the sky
- The dream the magi had, to warn them to stay away from Herod
- Joseph’s dream telling him urgently to take Mary and the baby to Egypt to stay out of harm’s way of Herod’s wrath
I could go on. But my point is, God did all these miracle because of God’s holy love for you and for me, just exactly the way we are right now. We don’t have to change in order for God to love us. He loves us no matter what. Right here. Right now.
